Mary died February 25,2014 in Yorktown, York Co., VA. OBIT: Mary L. Waclawski, of Yorktown, died Feb. 25, 2014, at home. She was 92.
Mrs. Waclawski served as a U.S. Navy WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during WWII and later in life continued in the service and support of others as a Red Cross volunteer at MacDonald Army Hospital, Fort Eustis.
While raising five sons, she was a dedicated and tireless military spouse who accompanied her husband, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Zigmund, on his many moves across the country with the U.S. Marine Corps. Mrs. Waclawski and her husband were charter members of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Yorktown and she worked for over 30 years as a dental assistant for Dr. G. Ramsey Knox in Grafton.
Since 2008, Mrs. Waclawski increasingly suffered through Alzheimer’s and dementia but always retained a kind and loving disposition.
The oldest of five children, she was born June 5, 1921 in Anderson, S.C. and to Yorktown in 1963. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zigmund and eldest son, Anthony.
She is survived by her sons, John, James, Mark and Michael; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three loving daughters-in-law.
A mass of the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church followed by eventual inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery.
She married Zigmund Waclawski. Zigmund was born Jujly 30, 1920. Zigmund died December 11,1987 in Yorktown, York Co., VA.
