He married Lora Joan Armstrong July 15, 1923 in Muncie, Delaware Co. IN. Lora was the daughter of (___) Armstrong and Vialess Joan Shackelford Bertram. Lora died May 17, 1995 in Muncie, Delaware Co. IN. OBIT: Lora Joan "Cookie" Southers, 68, Muncie, died at her home Wednesday evening. A livelong resident of Muncie, Mrs. Southers attended city schools. She was a machine operator for Wertz Novelty Co. before retiring in 1987. She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary and VFW Post 651 and was an avid bingo player and bowler. She also enjoyed fishing. Survivors include her husband, Verne Southers; her father, Web Bertram, Muncie; a son, Gordon "Bengie" Secuskie, Florida; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gay Neal, LaDeanna and David May, and Sarah and John L. Neal III, all of Muncie; a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Eula Armstrong; 18 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her mother, Vi Bertram, a sister, Anna Jones, a granddaughter, Leah Neal, and a great-granddaughter are deceased. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery. Calling at the mortuary will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services Monday. Memorials may be made to the hospice program at Ball Memorial Hospital.
