She married Thomas Sprinkle Hester. Thomas was born December 24, 1921 in Henderson, Vance Co., NC. Thomas was the son of Thomas Pope Hester and Mary Ola Spainhour. Thomas died September 29, 2011 in Henderson, Vance Co., NC. OBIT: Thomas Sprinkle Hester Sr., 89, of 229 Kerr Lake Club Drive, Henderson, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center. Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Thomas Pope Hester and May Ola Spainhour Hester.
He was a retired owner and operator of Carolina Heating and Cooling Inc. and a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church.
He served in World War II as a pilot in the United States Navy. He left active duty after the end of the war, but was called back into active duty when the Korean War broke out. During his naval career as a Commander, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, six Air Medals, a Navy Commendation and two Battle Stars. A Navy Reserve Officer, he retired after 22 years of service.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Flat Rock United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Pamela J. Gilliam. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Thomas S. Hester Jr. of Henderson; two daughters, Deborah Irene Hester Good of Raleigh and Cindy Hester Rodger of Umatilla, Fla.; a sister, Estelle H. Creech of Henderson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Irene Hamm Hester and Evelyn Hughes Hester; and a brother, Frank M. Hester.
