Helen died MY 29, 2011 in Henderson, Vance Co., NC. OBIT: Helen Hamm Horton, 90, of 441 Daniel-Harris Road, Henderson, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at a local nursing home.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late John Hartwell Hamm and Elizabeth Ayscue Hamm. She was the widow of Thomas Massey Horton.

She was a retired employee of Rose’s Stores Inc. She was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher.

A private graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Timothy J. Burgess.

Surviving are two sons, Victor M. Horton and Barry N. Horton, both of Henderson; a brother, Johnny Hamm of Henderson; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Grace H. Beck and a brother, Talmadge Hamm.

She married Thomas Massey Horton. Thomas was born January 19,1918 in Vance Co., NC. Thomas was the son of Charles G Horton and Henrietta Smith. Thomas died October 27,1985 in Durham, Durham Co., NC.

Helen Magdelino Hamm and Thomas Massey Horton had the following children:
