Alfred died September 28,1998 in Chase City, Mecklenburg Co., VA. OBIT: Alfred Sydnor Owen, 96, died September 28, 1998. Funeral services will be today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Chase City, with Dr. Ray Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Chase City. Owen was the son of the late William Daniel Owen and Willie Allgood Owen. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Lona Inge Owen; his second wife, Mary Puryear Owen; two sons, Robert Daniel Owen and Frank Owen and two grandchildren. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church and a Real Son of a Confederate Soldier; was a merchant in Chase City since 1933. He began his career in Owen Grocery and later opened Owen Supply Co. Survivors are two sons, James and Marvin Owen, both of Chase City; three daughters, Thelma Brankley (John S.) of Chase City; Dorothy Wallace (Walter) of Mechanicsville; Betty Jean Leason (Henry) of Richmond; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
He married twice. He married Mary Puryear. Mary was born February 23,1896. Mary died August 24, 1982. He married Lona D. Ingle February 2, 1922 in Mecklenburg Co, VA. Lona was born June 14, 1902. Lona died December 30, 1959.
Alfred Sydnor Owen and Lona D. Ingle had the following children:

22964 iii. Robert Daniel Owen was born in Mecklenburg Co, VA July 10, 1924. Robert died December 13, 1997.

22966 v. Thelma Owens (living).
22967 vi. Marvin Edwin Owen was born August 29, 1930.
22968 vii. Dorothy Owens was born 1932.
