Verna died January 1, 2004 in Stamps, Lafayette Co., AR. OBIT: Verna Mae Bailiff Nix, 91, of Stamps died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, in a Magnolia, Ark., hospital. Mrs. Nix was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Jamestown, La. She was a homemaker and member and former Sunday school teacher of Liberty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Nix, in 1977. Survivors include one son, Jimmy Nix of Gentry, Ark.; one daughter, Ruth Taylor of Stamps; two granddaughters, Carala Castor of Gentry and Ginger Russell of Stamps; five great-grandsons, Rodney Castor of Mena, Ark., Chad Castor of Gentry and Drew Russell, Garrett Russell and Aaron Russell of Stamps; one special friend, Edna McDonald of Stamps; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with W.D. Smith and the Rev. William Willis officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
She married James Andrew Nix. James was born October 6, 1909. James died January 13, 1977.
