Avice died June 8, 2016 in Atlantic Beach, Duval Co., FL. OBIT: PHELPS Avice Cynthia Phelps, 95, of Atlantic Beach passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 after a long illness. Avice was born in Baltimore, Md. In 1921, she graduated from high school two years ahead of her class, after which she attended secretarial college. She married Howard S. Phelps, and they moved to Florida in the mid 1940's. Avice enjoyed sewing, smocking, basket weaving and other crafts. She worked for many years with the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics until she retired at age 65. After a short time, she was rehired by the same department and continued to work until she was 80 before retiring at last. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Howard, and her youngest daughter; Yvonne (Vonnie) Davis. She is survived by her daughters; Murl Cruce, Frances Phelps, Sharon Hobbs, and 5 grandchildren; Susan Morgan, John Tolli, Jeremy Hobbs, Kelley Hobbs, and Matt Davis. She also has 5 great grand children; Doug and Nico Tolli, Cameron and Clark Hobbs, and Mason Davis. She married Howard Stanley Phelps. Howard was born March 4, 1916 in MD. Howard was the son of James h Phelps and Catherine Miller. Howard died June 15, 1985 in Duval Co., FL.
