She married Garland Toland Lavender October 28,1928 in Hill Co., TX. Garland was born May 23, 1905 in Brandon, Hill Co., TX. Garland was the son of C. W. Lavender and Carrie (___). Garland died August 26, 2006. OBIT: Garland T. Lavender, 101, a retired Methodist minister, went home to be with his Lord and savior Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tyler Street United Methodist Church in Dallas. Burial: 3 p.m. Wednesday in Brandon-Bynum Cemetery in Brandon. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors East Side Chapel, 2495 Corsicana Highway, Hillsboro.
Memorials: May be made to a local church.
The Rev. Garland T. Lavender was born May 23, 1905, to C.W. and Carrie Lavender in Brandon. A beloved pastor, the Rev. Lavender received his B.A. at Southwestern University in Georgetown and his B.D. at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas. He proudly marched with the SMU Mustang Band in the 1936 Rose Bowl. The Rev. Lavender was a U.S. Army chaplain in World War II, serving for 33 months in North Africa and Italy. He was an ordained United Methodist minister for 75 years. He spent 43 years in active ministry holding appointments in the Central Texas Conference and retired from the North Texas Conference in 1974. After retirement, he was minister of visitation at Tyler Street UMC for over 20 years. Retirement years included active membership in the Dal-Cliff Lions Club and gardening at his home in Granbury.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Grace Gibson Lavender, in 1974; and Eula Lougenia Hill Lavender of Dallas.
Survivors: Son, Jim Lavender and wife, Melanie, of Arlington; daughter, Nancy Guerry and husband, Bill, of Arlington; sister, Marcelyn Brown of Springdale, Ark.; grandchildren, Scott and Laura Lavender, Melissa Gee and Mark and Blaine Guerry; and seven great-grandchildren.
Grace Gertrude Gibson and Garland Toland Lavender had the following children:
