Hugh Anthony Allgood, 82, of Bowersville, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Hart Care Center.

Born Sept. 23, 1925, in Carroll County, he was a son of the late Bonner Barker Allgood and Effie Pearl Wynn Allgood. He retired as owner and operator of Allgood’s Grocery in Lavonia. He was a member of Lavonia United Methodist Church and was a member and past master of Lavonia Lodge #241, Free and Accepted Masons.

He was also past master of Temple Lodge #325. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Allgood, and grandsons, Daniel and Dustin Wade.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Lambert Allgood; daughters, Susan Gorman of Lavonia, Brenda Cleveland of Bowersville, Karen Allgood of Gainesville and Wanda Wade Bailey of Hartwell; sister, Julia Ann Levans of Temple; brother, Harry Allgood of Lithia Springs; four grandchildren, the Rev. Philip Maxell, Valarie Reeves, Rodney Cleveland and Heather Dobbs; and four great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 28, at Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom McElroy and the Rev. Philip Maxwell officiating. Entombment followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens, North.

Strickland Funeral Home, Lavonia Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

He married Edna Christine Lambert 1949 in Haralson Co., GA. Edna was born January 22, 1925 in Carroll Co., GA. Edna was the daughter of William F. Lambert and Gladys Willouby. Edna died October 20, 2011 in Bowersville, GA. OBIT: Mrs. Edna Christine (Lambert) Allgood, age 86, of Bowersville, died Sunday, October 29, 2011 at her home, following an extended illness.

Born January 22, 1925 in Temple, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Gladys (Willoughby) Lambert. She was retired from Carwood Manufacturing after many years of service. She owned and operated Allgood’s Grocery in Lavonia with her husband Hugh Allgood. Mrs. Allgood was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church and the Caring and Sharing Circle. She also founded the Over 50 Club and served as head of the church kitchen committee for many years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Allgood; grandsons: Dustin and Daniel Wade; five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include daughters: Susan Gorman of Lavonia, Brenda Cleveland of Bowersville, Karen Allgood of Gainesville, and Wanda Wade Bailey of Hartwell; four grandchildren: Rev. Phillip Maxwell, Valarie Reeves, Rodney Cleveland, and Heather Rickman; and four great granddaughters.

OBIT: Karen Marie Allgood, age 57, of Gainesville, formerly of Lavonia, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Grady Memorial Hospital. Born in Carrollton, she was the daughter of the late Hugh A. and Edna Christine (Lambert) Allgood. She was a registered nurse with Laurelwood of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church. She is survived by her companion: Mike Kesler of Lavonia; sisters: Susan Gorman of Lavonia and Brenda Cleveland of Bowersville; nieces: Valarie Reeves and Heather Rickman; and nephews: Rev. Phillip Maxwell and Rodney Cleveland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Wanda Bailey. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Susan Gorman
