Donald died April 24, 2014. OBIT: Dr. Blackketter was born June 15, 1923 in Baca County, Colorado. He was a US Army veteran obtaining the rank of Sergeant and served during World War II. He married Leoda Hess on July 10, 1956 in Upland, California. Dr. Blackketter was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Medical School and moved to Shamrock in 1953. He had been the medical doctor for over 55 years in Shamrock and was the chief of staff at Shamrock General Hospital. While in Shamrock, Dr. Blackketter was very active in the community and received various community honors. He was a member of the Shamrock Boosters as well as many other various civic organizations. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Shamrock where he served on various boards and taught Sunday school. At one time, Dr. Blackketter received Country Doctor of the Year for the Texas Panhandle.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY – his parents; 2 sisters; and a brother.

SURVIVORS – his wife, Leoda Blackketter of Midland; 3 sons, K.C. Blackketter of Midland, Neal Blackketter of Orlando, Florida, and Ross Blackketter of Galveston; a daughter, Carla Walrath of Round Rock; 1 brother, Lewis Blackketter of McClemore, Tennessee; 1 sister, Betty Lou Noel of Abilene, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
