Mary died December 22, 2007 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN. OBIT: Mary Ellen Steinke, 88, Michi-gan City, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 22, 2007) in The Arbors of Michigan City.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel with Dr. Lance Hilberg officiating. Cremation will take place and the ashes interred privately in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

She was born Aug. 2, 1919 in Bloomington, Ind. to the late Leslie and Mary (Dillman) Allgood. On April 10, 1943 in Michigan City, she married Charles "Chuck" Steinke, who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2007.

Surviving are a son, Daniel (Barbara) Steinke, Michigan City; two grandsons, Chad Steinke, Chicago, and Douglas Steinke, Michigan City; sister Lou Alice Cappy, Bloomington, Ind.; sister-in-law Alice Flotow, Michigan City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Baker, and brothers Donald and David Allgood.

She retired from Joy Manufacturing as a switchboard operator. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed watching her grandsons participate in high school sports.

She married Charles (Chuck) F. Steinke April 10, 1943 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN. Charles was born July 20, 1913 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN. Charles was the son of Robert C. Steinke and Henrietta Ida Reetz. Charles died February 26, 2007 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN. OBIT: Mr. Charles F. ?Chuck? Steinke, 93, of Michigain City, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at 1:35 p.m. at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City.

He was born July 20, 1913, in Michigan City to Robert C. and Henrietta Ida (Reetz) Steinke.

Mr. Steinke retired as foreman in the quality control department of Pullman-Standard, Michigan City. He was a member of St. John?s United Church of Christ. He enjoyed his yard work and high school basketball and watching his grandsons participate in high school sports.

On April 10, 1943, in Michigan City, he married Mary Ellen Allgood, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Daniel (Barbara) of Michigan City; two grandsons, Chad and Douglas; and one sister, Alice Flotow of Michigan City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marie; and one brother, Robert.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, with Rev. William Fine officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 11 a.m. until the service. Cremation will take place and the ashes interred privately in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.
