Martha died February 17, 2007 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN. OBIT: Mrs. Martha J. Baker, 89, of Michigan City, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at 10:35 a.m. at Fountainview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, La Porte.

She was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Bloomington to Leslie and Mary (Dillman) Allgood.

Mrs. Baker was a retired obstetrician technician at Memorial Hospital, Michigan City, where she delivered hundreds of babies over a 30-year time period, many of whom were second generation. She was a member of Grace Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

On Nov. 9, 1936, in Michigan City, she married Walter T. Baker, who died May 3, 1992.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Lou Donald and David Allgood.

Surviving are one daughter, Pamela J. Koselke of La Porte; five sons, Richard E. and Gary J. (Annette), both of Michigan City, Dennis L. (Lauri) of West Linn, Ore., Robert D. of Mill Valley, Calif., and Bruce E. (Thalia) of Trail Creek; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ellen Steinke of Michigan City and Lou Alice Cappy of Bloomington; and special friend Marilyn Cook.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, with Rev. John Hall officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the service. Cremation will take place.

She married Walter Twin Baker November 6, 1936. Walter was born Augut 13, 1911. Walter died May 3, 1992 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN.

33014 iii. Gary James Baker was born in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN June 30, 1942. Gary died October 18, 2013 in Michigan City, La Porte Co., IN. OBIT: Gary James Baker, 71, of Michigan City, Indiana passed away peacefully on October 18, 2013, in Franciscan Communities Hospice of Michigan City after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on June 30, 1942 in Michigan City, Indiana to Walter and Martha (Allgood) Baker, who preceded him in death. On May 7, 1966 in Michigan City, he married Annette (Teeters) Baker, who survives in Michigan City. Gary is also survived by his brothers, Richard Baker of Michigan City, Robert Baker of San Mateo, California, Bruce (Thalia) Baker of Opelika, Alabama; sister Pamela Koselke of Michigan City; and sister-in-law Lauri Baker of West Linn, Oregon. He had many nieces and nephews to which he was a loving, supportive, and generous uncle. He was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Baker; and his brother-in-law Leonard Koselke. He graduated in 1960 from Isaac C. Elston High School in Michigan City and then served in the U.S. Navy. Gary worked in the railroad freight car industry. He began his career at Pullman-Standard in Michigan City, moving on to Hammond, Indiana, and then to Pullman, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois. He also worked for Portec, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia and Trinity Industries of Dallas, Texas. He retired in 2007. After retiring he joined the Michigan City Exchange Club. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, and was a board member of the Michigan City Senior Center. He was an animal lover, enjoyed his flower garden, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears. Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to7 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, October 25, 2013. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Lance Hilberg officiating.
