John died April 25, 2011 in Jackson, HInds Co., MS. OBIT: Funeral services for John William Norton, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, at Heuck's Retreat Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on North Jackson Street is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service at Heuck's Retreat Baptist Church.

Mr. Norton, 73, died April 25, 2011, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was born in Brookhaven on December 7, 1937, to Lamar Norton and Ruby Griffin Norton.

He was retired from National Oilwell and continued his career with Norton Farms. He was an active member of Heuck's Retreat Baptist Church. He visited all local nursing homes on Sundays. He also visited several homebound women to deliver food and spend time with them. To all who knew him, knew he loved this time of year, being with family and friends, planting his garden and making homemade syrup. He was a very special man that always put others first. He will be sorely missed by all. Mr. Norton had received many awards and honors during his lifetime. He was awarded Farm Family of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award for Lincoln County given by the Cattleman's Association. He was a Mason and enjoyed cooking fish with his catfish cooking team for H&P.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Hilda Rae Coon Norton; his brothers, Carl, Robert, Ralph, Paul and Jerry Norton; and his sister, Juanita Norton Sandifer.

Survivors are his son, Dale Norton and his wife, Debbie, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Gail Norton Blackwell and her husband, Ward, of Brookhaven, and Linda Norton Booth and her husband, Paul, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his brother, Noel Norton and his wife, Deloris, of Monticello; his grandchildren, Danielle Wilson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Jessica Norton Jordan and her husband, Landon; Sawyer Smith and Will Norton, all of Brookhaven; his step-grandsons, Cain Blackwell of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Jason Wilson of Brookhaven; one great-granddaughter, Alli Rae Jordan; and many nephews and nieces

He married Hilda Rae Coon August 27, 1957 in Lincoln Co., MS. Hilda was born January 2, 1936 in Lincoln Co., MS. Hilda was the daughter of Stanley Joe Coon and Minnie Mae Smith. Hilda died February 21, 2006 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Hilda Rae Coon Norton, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Heuck's Retreat Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Norton, 69, died Feb. 21, 2006, at her residence. She was born to Stanley Joe Coon and Minnie Mae Smith Coon.

She was a a homemaker. She had been employed with Southern Bell, Stahl Urban Manufacturing Co. and Nannie Nursery. She was a member of Heuck's Retreat Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a nursery worker.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her husband of 49 years, John Norton, of Brookhaven; her sons, Dale Norton and wife Debbie, of Brookhaven; her daughters, Gail Magee, of Brookhaven, and Linda Booth and husband Paul, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and her grandchildren, Danielle Wilson, of Tuscaloosa, Jessica Jordan and husband Landon, Will Norton and Sawyer Smith, all of Brookhaven
