She married twice. She married Jimmy Lee Sanders May 4, 1941 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL. Jimmy was born September 4, 1920 in Russell Co., AL. Jimmy was the son of Tom J. Sanders and Maggil M Clegg. Jimmy died November 4,1987 in Birmingham, Jefferson Co, AL. She married David Elias Purvis January 16, 1991. Obit: Mittie Porter Sanders, 82, of Phenix City, Ala., passed away Friday, May 11, 2007, at Canterbury Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, 2007, 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Phenix City, Ala., with Rev. Elbert Ward and Rev. Toby Newsome officiating. Serving as pall bearers will be Brian Sanders, Steven Sanders, Chad Sanders, Jeffrey Sanders, Barney Long and Kevin Johnson. Mrs. Sanders was born in Phenix City, Ala., to the late Wilburn and Jewel Newsome Porter. She was a homemaker and a member of Golden Acres Assembly of God Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim L. Sanders, three sisters and one brother. Survivors include her sons, James R. "Jimmy" Sanders and wife Sara of Fortson, Ga., Ronnie Sanders and wife Diane of Lakeland, Fla., Jeff Sanders and wife Tamala of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Dotson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Martha Webster of Phenix City, Ala.; her grandchildren, Sharmon Long and Angela Johnson both of Savannah, Ga., Brian Sanders of Birmingham, Ala., Steven, Jerry and Chad Sanders all of Phenix City, Ala., Rhonda Sapp of Columbus, Ga., Jeffrey Sanders of Chattanooga, Tenn.; ten great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.
David was born December 16, 1922 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL. David was the son of Leonard L Purvis and Minne A Morgan. David died December 28,1999 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL.
