He was born September 21, 1918 in Yadkin County to the late Fletcher Hoots and Mucie Allgood Hoots. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Gough Hoots; sisters, Phosa Reavis, Lola Mae Joyner; brothers, Robert Hoots, Max Hoots. Surviving are his children, Ann (Charles) Holden, Joan (Mark) Wooten; grandchildren, Ashley Holden, Jenna Raye (Jermey) Brown, Tyler Wooten; great grandchildren, Blake Shore, Katie Sealey, Makayla Brown, Lawson Brown; sisters, Betty Lou (Bristol) Renegar, Leta (Bill) Steelman. His funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Deep Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Page and the Rev. Ron Davis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church. Memorials can be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church, 2500 Old Stage Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Hoots family.
He married Gladys Eileen Gough December 21, 1940 in Morganton, Burke Co., NC. Gladys was born October 28, 1919. Gladys was the daughter of Luther Jones Gough and Nancy Myers. Gladys died December 23, 2008 in Yadkinville, Yadkin Co., NC. OBIT: Gladys Eileen Gough Hoots, 89, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2008 at Hoots memorial Hospital. She was born October 28, 1919 to the late Luther & Nancy Myers Gough. She was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. She was a preceded in death by her parents, two sister, and two brothers. Surviving are her husband of 68 years John Ray Hoots of the home, two daughters Anna (Charles) Holden, Yadkinville; Joan (Mark) Wooten, Salisbury; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister Anna Lee Wiles, two brothers Hubert Gough, Luther (Melva) Gough, Jr. Her funeral will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Friday December 26, 2008 at Deep Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Faircloth, and Rev. Ron Davis. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary after the graveside service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church cemetery fund 2401 Old Stage Road Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to thank the staff at Hoots Memorial Hospital for their loving care giving to Mrs. Hoots during her illness.
