Samuel died March 18, 1979 in Franklin Co., MS. Samuel and Vera were buried in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS.

He married Vera Geneva Smith December 28, 1929. Vera was born March 11, 1912 in Lincoln Co., MS. Vera was the daughter of Walter Whitfield Smith and Ida Corene Watts. Vera died September 22, 2000 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Vera S. Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Smith, 88, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, of heart failure at her residence. She was born in Lincoln County on March 11, 1912, to the late Walter W. and Ida Watts Smith. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleansant Grove Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Sam P. Smith; brothers, Frank C. Smith and Vernon H. Smith; and a sister, Lessie Dickey. Survivors are her son, Frank Cary Smith; sister, Addie Smith; grandsons, John Cary Smith and Carl Anthony Smith; granddaughter-in-law, Malisia Smith; and a great-grandson, all of Brookhaven. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Preston Smith and Vera Geneva Smith had the following child:
