Smith will be on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS at 2:00 PM, with burial to follow in the New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Bro. Joel Smith will be officiating the services, with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive), Brookhaven, MS on Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM.
Mrs. Montese P. Smith, 84, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Silver Cross Nursing Home. She was born on May 15, 1932, in Lincoln County, MS, to Virgil Lamar Smith and Lura Bell Smith Smith. Mrs. Smith worked at King's Daughters Medical Center for 23 1/2 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and wife. She was a homemaker and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Billy Joe Smith; sister Eleanor Smith.
Survivors are her daughters, Cathie Smith, Karen Porter and husband Gary, Melissa Rushing and husband Edward, all of Brookhaven, MS; grandchildren, Shannon Smith, Leigh Smith, Joseph Porter, Dustin Porter, Jessica Dykes, Ashley Rushing, Jamie Rushing and Anna Grace Rushing; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; brother Aubrey Lamar Smith and wife Else; sister Charlotte Smith, both of TX; and a host of nieces and nephews and family and friends.
She married Billy Joe Smith. Billy was born March 11, 1932 in Lincoln Co., MS. Billy was the son of Jaudon Smith and Katherine Elizabeth Floyd. Billy died September 12, 2007 in Jackson, Hinds Co, MS. OBIT: Services for Billy Joe Smith, of Brookhaven, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Avenue with burial in New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery in Lincoln County.. Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Smith, 75, died Sept. 12, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Lincoln County on March 11, 1932, to Jaudon Smith and Katherine Floyd Smith. He was a a federal employee with the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey for 18 years, and a welder with Pepper's Machine and Welding. He was a member of New Hope Church of Christ. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors are his wife, Montese Smith, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Cathie Smith, Karen Porter and husband Gary, and Melissa Rushing and husband Edward, all of Brookhaven; his brothers, Jimmy Smith and Dean Smith, both of Brookhaven; his sisters, Mary Alice Williams and Agnes Allgood, both of Brookhaven, and Beatrice Lambert, of Jayess; his eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
