Henry died September 17, 2010 in LaGrange, Troup Co., GA. OBIT: Mr. Henry Abernathy, 84, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010, at Florence Hand Home.
Mr. Abernathy was born January 16, 1926, in Roswell, GA, son of the late Willie and Harriett Gilliam Abernathy. He was a member of East LaGrange Baptist Church. Mr. Abernathy was Owner-Operator of Abernathy’s Amoco/BP and served as a LaGrange City Councilman for twenty-five years. He was veteran of the U.S. Army having received the Bronze Star during World War II.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Alane and Ben Thompson, Jr. and Paula and Joey Keeth; sons and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Leslie Abernathy and Toby Abernathy, all of LaGrange; seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Abernathy and sister, Mary Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Abernathy.
Funeral services will be 3:00 Sunday at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with Rev. Fred Buchanan and Rev. Josh Forbus officiating. Interment will be at Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday before the service from 1:00 until 3:00.
