Cllifton died June 7, 2004 in Raleigh, Wake Co., NC. OBIT: CLIFTON T. "CLIFF" EDWARDS, 81, of Raleigh, died Monday, June 7, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Edwards was born in Henderson, NC, September 26, 1922. He was the son of the late Eugene and Essie Edwards. After finishing high school in Henderson, he attended Mars Hill Junior College and UNC Chapel Hill. His stay at UNC was interrupted by WWII, in which he served with the 75th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge and other campaigns in Europe. Mr. Edwards was awarded the Bronze Star and was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1946. He then finished at UNC in 1948 and later received his Masters Degree from UNC in 1952. While in Europe in WWII Sgt. Edwards met Ann Lobach, who was serving in the American Red Cross in the general areas of the troops. After the war, they were married in Allentown, PA on August 16, 1947. His career started as assistant comptroller of Roses Stores but soon returned to UNC to become qualified to teach in the public schools. He was a teacher and principal in Franklinton and Henderson, NC. In 1953 he came to Raleigh with the Raleigh School System and served as principal in several public schools including Fred Olds, Myrtle Underwood, Frances Lacy, Daniels Junior High and Stough Elementary, until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Edwards was an active member of Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh. He was very active civically. He served in his professional association for many years, and was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Edwards gave much leadership to the Boy Scouts and worked several summers at Camp Sea Gull. Cliff's desire to work with and help out people from all walks of life was evident in his dedication to his work with the Wake County Public Schools and his many hours of community and church service. He especially enjoyed interacting with his many students as an elementary and Junior High School Principal, his favorite jobs. Family friends and acquaintances will fondly recall his gift of relating tales with both humor and a message. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Mr. Edwards loved and enjoyed his family and spent much time with them at Holden Beach, despite his love for the N.C. Mountains. Later he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and watching them participate in sports and other activities. Surviving are his wife, Ann L. Edwards of the home; sons, Jim Edwards and his wife, Eve Spratt of Charleston, SC, Rick Edwards and his wife, Gretchen of Raleigh, and Tom Edward and his wife, Lisa of Park City, Utah; grandchildren, Ian and Julianne Edwards of Raleigh, Clif and Carly Edward of Charleston, SC.

He married Ann K Lolach August 16, 1947 in Allentown, PA.
