4584. John Powell7 Allgood (Samuel Henry6, James J.5, Henry Robert4, William (Pikey) Henry3, William John2, Edward1) was born in Forsyth Co., NC November 16, 1910. John died May 30, 2002 in Winston Salem, Forsyth Co., NC. OBIT: Mr. John P. Allgood Sr. of 1005 S. Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem passed away May 30, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center.

John was born Nov. 16, 1910, in Forsyth County to Samuel Henry and Mary Adelaide Hauser Allgood.

From his youth, he was known to most as "Goody" and many never knew his real name.

In addition to his parents, his first wife of 32 years, Thelma Ruby Steelman Allgood, and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

John was a member of Ardmore Moravian Church since March of 1945. He was retired from Hanes Hosiery printing department, which later became Sara Lee Graphics, after 48 years of service. Being a member of P.I.C.A. through out the years in his printing profession, he was presented numerous awards for his inventions and time-saving devices. In 1998, John married his longtime friend, Virginia Isabell Lowe, of Winston-Salem. Virginia and her family enveloped John into their lives and hearts over the years as a beloved member of their family. He enjoyed being surrounded by a loving family, especially during the holidays and all family functions. The legacy he leaves is the love he had for his families. All too soon, he succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. He has always been a true gentlemen and an honorable man. John was a well loved man and shall always be dear to us and in our hearts.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Johnnie P. Allgood Jr. (Nettie) of Greensboro; two stepsons, Michael R. Williams (Debbie) and Ronnie G. Keaton Jr.; three step-daughters, Tonya Wilson (Greg), Twyla Barber (Marlon) and Tammy Snow (Mike); three grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Byron Allgood of Pfafftown; a sister, Helen A. Norman of Peoria, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Special thanks are extended to the staffs of the Elizabeth & Tab Williams Adult Day Care Center and the Acute Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for their gentle and loving care of John during his time of need, also to those that cared at Silas Creek Manor. A special memorial service celebrating the life of John will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Kinney Road (off Lewisville-Clemmons Road), Clemmons. Bishop David Hibbett will be officiating.

He married twice. He married Thelma Ruby Steelman. Thelma was born June 20, 1908 in Morganton, Burke Co., NC. Thelma was the daughter of James D. Steelman and Carrie Holder. Thelma died December 3, 1963 in Winston Salem, Forsyth Co., NC. Ruby was buried in the Moravian Cemetery, Winston Salem, NC
